I then went to college in Boston where the preferred term is soda, or the more colloquial "tonic" (absurd but true). Fortunately, I had a roommate from Pittsburgh and another from Minneapolis and we created a vocal minority to defend pop. Sadly, I then went to graduate school in St. Louis, Missouri where teh literate minority says soda as well. Alas, I now use both terms so as not to create social unrest. |
